Fabrics of your choice - Base fabric (enough to make your bag the size you want it!) I used cotton drill: it's a bit canvas like and quite hard-wearing, cut to the size you want your bag to be, (plus a little seam allowance)
Accent fabric - mine was this lovely woven wool design.
Something for your handles - I used cotton cord that I crocheted with my fingers, something flatter would be easier though! A cotton tape, or handles made from your either your base or accent fabric would be nice
Double sided tape
Got all that? Then you're good to go!
While that was drying, I prepped the other fabrics.
Then I pressed and sewed the accent pieces to go on top of the bag. I folded the strips of accent fabric in half, pressed, folded and pressed hems, positioned the handles, and sewed them in place with two rows of stitching on my lovely vintage Pfaff.
So, that's it. If all of that sounds too much like a load of hassle, you can buy this very bag here - or a very close approximation of it, anyway. I love making these, they're so simple, nice to look at, practical to use, and obviously hilarious to boot. Happy creating!
Love and kisses,
Did you know that in a few days, you will no longer be able to grab free plastic bags when you go shopping? It's a great move, and one I've been hoping for for a really long time from an environmental point of view. And it sneaked up on me - I didn't realise it was so close until my friends at UpCycled.London gave me the heads up! Thanks guys! Luckily I was already busy making these re-usable bags...
So, I want to help you out by giving away one of these little beauties! Just comment below, and I'll pick a winner a week from today - on the 9th of October 2015. The winner will receive their choice of shopper. Simple! Good luck and lots of love. Tor x
So Excited! I LOVE this fabric!
I thought I couldn't get any more but the lovely lady at Fabric HQ came through for me, bless you Jacqui. I don't often buy fabric online, but this site has some gorgeous stuff, do go and have a look. Last time I made two bags out of this they sold really quickly, so keep your eye on the shop! I may even keep one for myself this time...In the meantime, of course, you can always get your handmade handbag fix from my ready made items
Today I'll be going on some training for work, at the Early Years Conference in Devizes. Love a bit of training, and looking forward to getting some new ideas to try out with the tiny people at nursery.
And tonight I'll be holding a stall at the Self Unlimited event in Rowde. Drat I can't work out how to upload the poster... But check them out, they do great work! It's at Furlong Close, anyway, 5.30 till 8.30. It's always nice to do some selling in person and meet the lovely people who like to buy handmade and support small businesses.
Happy Friday! x
I buy pretty fabrics and make stuff...
